A six-stage community water system (intake, pumping, sedimentation, slow sand filtration, chlorination and covered storage) that brings safe drinking water to rural families.
Clean Water · Healthy Families · Sustainable Communities
The Community Water System Project brings safe, treated drinking water to rural households. Water is drawn from an underground source and passes through six stages before it reaches the community.

Ground Water Intake: Captures water from the underground source through a protected intake structure with a screen to prevent debris.
Pump House: A submersible or surface pump lifts water from the ground to the sedimentation tank with adequate pressure for the system.
Sedimentation Tank: Allows suspended solids and silt to settle at the bottom, reducing the turbidity of the water.
Slow Sand Filtration Unit: Removes remaining fine particles and microorganisms and improves water clarity using layers of sand and gravel.
Chlorination Unit: Disinfects the water by adding a safe level of chlorine to eliminate harmful germs and bacteria.
Underground Clear Water Tank: Stores treated water in a clean, covered underground tank for safe and continuous distribution to the community.
Reliable clean water cuts waterborne illness, frees children (most often girls) from long walks to fetch water, and gives families time back for school and work.
Safe water for a brighter future.

Intake, pump house and sedimentation tank are complete; filtration, chlorination and storage are next.
